Background
Blue Map is an environmental protection app developed by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs. It provides real-time air data, national maps of air quality, water quality, and pollution sources to help the public access environmental information quickly and easily. So far, Blue Map has promoted feedback and rectification from over 450 polluting companies.
Formerly known as the well-known “Pollution Map,” it now has nearly 3 million users and was once named “Best App” by the Apple App Store.

Challenges
The Institute aimed to offer comprehensive and convenient services to those concerned about air and water quality. It launched the Blue Map app to consolidate environmental data from over 20 national platforms into one place, and embedded it into an app, making it easier for the public to access information and participate in environmental supervision and protection. The institute needed a powerful and scalable infrastructure to host the app, handle large data volumes, and manage high traffic.
